Last week a three-week course in the Icelandic language and culture began at the University Center of the West Fjords. More than 100 students from all around Europe, North America and from as far away as Hong Kong are participating in the course.

Bike Park Opened Outside Reykjavík

The Skálafell Bike Park formally opened yesterday at a ski resort outside Iceland’s capital. Bikers (ages seven and older) can take their bikes up the ski lifts and cycle down the slopes, which are too steep for cycling both ways.

Man Makes Heroic Rescue in Highland River

Ásmundur Thór Kristmundsson, a 20-year-old search and ICE-SAR rescue team member, risked his own life yesterday when he waded into the Krossá river in the highland resort of Thórsmörk to save two tourists who were trapped in a small car in the middle of the river.

Reykjavík Mayor Wears Drag at Gay Pride

Mayor of Reykjavík Jón Gnarr led the Gay Pride parade on Saturday wearing a flowery dress and a wig, waving to the crowd from the back of a truck. There were 35 floats in the parade this year which progressed down Laugavegur, Reykjavík’s main shopping street.
