Safe Places at the Eruption

At the Fimmvörduháls eruption site two hills have been designated as safe places for the two craters. This added security comes after a second fissure opened Wednesday night. The lava stream has increased considerably after the second crater opened up.

Plane Crashes near Flúdir, South Iceland

Just after 16.00 a small airplane crashed near Flúdir. Four were aboard the Cessna plane, bulit in 1968, and all are injured, three men and one woman. The Coast Guard Helicopter carried three of those aboard to a Reykjavík hospital and the fourth one was put in an ambulance.

Iceland Eruption in the World Press. Unbelievable Video

In an interview with icelandreview.com Hótel Rangá owner Fridrik Pálsson said that journalists from all over the world are following the exciting new development in the eruption. Many of the best photographers in Iceland have gone to the scene, including Ragnar Axelson at Morgunbladid, who went on a privte plane this morning like Iceland review’s Páll Stefánsson. Axelsson’s series is impressive.

Fantastic Video of the new Crater

This mew video shows the new crater along with the old one. Geologist Ármann Höskuldsson describes how he literally saw the new crater open up. He also says on the video that now the new rift has grown to the extent that he and the reporter should leave.
