Die erste Isländische Nationalversammlung fand im November in Island statt. Es nahmen etwa 1.400 Menschen aus allen Teilen des Landes teil, um darüber zu sprechen, welche Art der Gemeinschaft aus der aktuellen Krise resultieren könnte. Nun finden Nationalversammlungen in verschiedenen Landesteilen statt.

Power Company Sponsors Search and Rescue

Landsvirkjun, the National Power Company, donated ISK 500,000 to ICE-SAR, the umbrella association of the Icelandic search and rescue services, in the memory of Halldóra Benediktsdóttir, the woman who died after falling into a crevasse on Langjökull glacier on January 30.

Record Number of People Emigrate from Iceland

Approximately 10,600 people moved away from Iceland in 2009 while 5,800 people moved to the country, according to new information from Statistics Iceland. With 4,800 people leaving in excess of new arrivals, this is the largest wave of emigration Iceland has ever seen in one year.

Iceland Optimistic After London Icesave Talks

The Icelandic government believes there is reason for optimism after yesterday’s talks with the British and Dutch negotiation committees on Icesave. The Icelandic committee has emphasized that the Icesave legislation will likely be rejected with 80 percent of votes in the upcoming referendum.
