Icesave-Referendum schon im Februar

Die isländische Regierung hat angekündigt, der Volksentscheid über das Icesave-Gesetz werde möglicherweise schon am 20. Februar stattfinden. Die Volksabstimmung wird notwendig, weil der isländische Staatspräsident Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson gestern sein Veto gegen das Gesetz eingelegt hat.

Record Heat Measured in Iceland in December

The weather was unusually warm in Iceland last December. On December 12, the temperature rose to 15.1°C (59.2°F) at the automatic weather station at Skjaldthingsstadir, east Iceland, which is a record high for that day since temperatures were first registered in Iceland.

Icelanders Bid Farewell to Christmas

January 6 is known as Threttándinn or “The Thirteenth” in Iceland. According to the Icelandic calendar, it marks the 13th and last day of Christmas—the first being Christmas Day. Bonfires and fireworks shows will be held in many locations around Iceland today.
