The Icelandic Financial Supervisory Authority (FME) is currently investigating whether the fallen banks, Glitnir, Landsbanki and Kaupthing, systematically tried to maintain the price of their own shares before the collapse of the banking system last year and in doing so sent misguiding messages to the market.

Iceland Oil Exploration Applicants Drop Out

Both applicants for oil exploration rights in the so-called Dragon Zone off the northeast coast of Iceland have withdrawn their applications. Minister of Industry Katrín Júlíusdóttir said yesterday that she is eager to have other companies take over the project.

Raftingunfall forderte beinahe ein Opfer

Die isländische Seefahrtsorganisation untersucht derzeit einen Vorfall, welcher sich beim Raften in Austari-Jökulsá im Skagafjördur in Nordisland zugetragen hat. Dort war ein Mann zwischen 40 und 50 ins Wasser gefallen und beinahe ertrunken.
