Ingólfstorg: Protestors Meet with City Council

Well over two thousand people sent formal objections to the Reykjavik city council’s current plans to build a five story hotel at Vallarstræti Street. The plan entails moving two buildings across the street and into the adjacent Ingólfstorg Square. Also, Reykjavik’s main concert venue Nasa will be demolished.

Erró – Japanese Love Letters (1979–1980)

The series Japanese Love Letters, now on display at Reykjavik Art Museum, Hafnarhús, is not typical of Erró’s art, due to its visual content. Here, the written word competes with other pictorial material as these works are all in shades of gray and brown are highly unusual for this color-happy artist.

Icelandic Silicon Corporation Granted License

The Environment Agency of Iceland has granted the Icelandic Silicon Corporation license to operate a factory at Helguvík. The license entails a production of up to 50 thousand tons per year of raw silicon, and up to 20 thousand tons per year of silicon dust, in addition to peripheral equipment, garages and other services.
