Telephone Commercials Cause Unrest

The Icelandic telephone company, Síminn, has caused unrest among catholics in Iceland with their advertising campaign for their latest brand of cell phones. The commercials are based on the story of Galileo appearing in court in the Vatican. 5000 members of the Catholic Church in Iceland have threatened to boycott Síminn because of this.

Women 13 Percent of All Board Members

According to a recent study made by Bifröst University women occupy 13 percent of board seats in 120 of the largest Icelandic companies. In 13 of the largest the chairman is a woman. In 2007 only three women were on boards in some of the 100 largest companies.

A Kings Manor Found in Greenland?

A new interpretation of Grænlandslýsing ,a script by Ívar Bárdarson, suggests that Hvalseyrarbær an old structure from the middle ages situated in Qaqortoq in Greenland is in fact the old Þjóðhildarstadir. Þjóðhildarstadir was the Norwegian king’s manor in Greenland in the Middle Ages.

Run Woman, Run!

The annual womens run or Kvennahlaupid will be held all around Iceland on Saturday. The womens run is one of the biggest sports events of the year and in relation to number of participants it is by far the largest.
