More than 400 people had to spend the night in the town sports hall on the Westman Islands after a storm crossed the area last night. The people intended to stay in tents in Herjólfsdalur valley because of the <i>thjódhátíd<p> festival that starts today.

Use of credit cards on the increase

A new report from Statistics Iceland reveals that the net turnover from Icelandic credit cards rose by 17 percent in the first five months of 2007, compared to the same period in 2006. At the same time, net turnover from debit cards only rose by 3.3 percent.

Exista acquires shares in Storebrand

Icelandic financial services company Exista yesterday bought 5 percent of the shares in the Norwegian insurance and financial services company Storebrand and has an option to buy another 5 percent, according to national radio RÚV.
