Private dancing banned

Private dancing will be banned and stripping will only be allowed with special permission in Iceland after July 1 as reported this weekend, according to a new law provision accepted by parliament in March.

Man burned by geyser

A Polish man in his in his early 20s suffered 2nd degree burns yesterday morning when he stood too close to the geyser Strokkur, south Iceland, and hot water spurted over his feet. He was taken to a hospital and is recovering.

Man seriously injured after fight

A Lithuanian man in his 30s is unconscious and being kept on a ventilator with a crack in his skull after suffering blows to his head with a bludgeon in his home on Saturday night. Six Lithuanians were arrested and questioned.

Major traffic jam in Iceland

There was so much traffic in southwest Iceland yesterday that cars stood in line from Reykjavík to Hvalfjördur fjord, for nearly three hours. For security reasons, cars were let through the tunnels underneath the fjord in groups.

World record in tunnel drilling?

Drill No. 2 at Kárahnjúkar dam in the eastern highland probably broke a world record in tunnel drilling on Saturday when it drilled 106.12 meters in 24 hours. The previous record was held by the same drill; 92 meters in 24 hours in June 2006.
