More support for private schools

The Educational Council of Reykjavík City decided this week to increase financial support to private elementary schools in the city from ISK 515,963 (EUR 5,700, USD 7,500) to ISK 600,000 (EUR 6,600, USD 8,700) per pupil.

Record pollution in Akureyri

Air pollution in Akureyri, in northeast Iceland, reached higher levels than expected in January and February and surpassed the health protection limit on 13 occasions, which is 57 percent of the pollution quota in one year.

Man challenges pornography laws

A resident in Akureyri brought a copy of the Icelandic erotic magazine Bleikt og blátt (“Pink and blue”) to the police station to report a crime. He had been told pornography was illegal in Iceland, but that the term was hard to define.
