Elderly People reach agreement with Government

This afternoon it was announced that a committee who has been studying how to improve the lifestyle of the elderly has reached its conclusion. The government will use many of the committee’s proposals to improve government pension and build more housing for the elderly.

Unemployment up from Last Year

According to Statistics Iceland unemployment was 4% in second quarter 2006. That means that on the average 7,200 people were looking for a job. This is up 1% since the same quarter last year. Unemployment is virtually the same with men and women or 3.9% for men and 4.1% for women.
