Iceland Telecom faces criticism for proposed sale of infrastructure assets

The new owners of Iceland Telecom, Exista and Kaupthing, are in discussions to sell some of the company’s infrastructure assets to the utility Reykjavík Energy. When Iceland Telecom was privatized last year, the government refused to separate the infrastructure assets from the company, claiming various difficulties. The reported price for the infrastructure is ISK 20 billion, or approximately 30 per cent of the price paid for Iceland Telecom.
