A Glitnir (Íslandsbanki) sponsored rapid chess tournament will start today at 17:00 in Reykjavík City Hall. The tournament celebrates the memory of Haraldur Blöndal, a supreme court lawyer and chess enthusiast who would have turned 60 this year.
“It is greed to ration yourself a yearly salary equal to the lifetime earnings of a diligent married couple,” said the Minister of Agriculture yesterday. His party, the Progressive Party, has been criticized for “giving the banks away” in a controversial privitization in 2002.
