The Icelandic Cabinet decided on Friday to reverse the decision of the Labor Court concerning salaries of the Prime Minister, President, members of the Althingi, judges and other top officials when the Icelandic Parliament, the Althingi, reconvenes on January 17.
Bladid newspaper reports that Icelanders are top of the league when it comes to babies born out of wedlock. In a survey of European nations, 64% of Icelandic babies in 2004 were born to cohabiting or single parents, compared to 31.6% in Europe as a whole.
According to Morgunbladid newspaper, fish catch by the Icelandic fishing fleet in 2005 was 1,667,000 tons, the lowest figure since 1995 when it was 1,605,000 tons.
The Road Traffic Directorate has revealed that 2005 was a record year for car sales, and was 60% more than the previous year.
