Iceland has won Miss World 2005, watched from the audience by her mother – herself a former top five contestant in Miss World 1983. For the third time in the history of the pageant, the Miss World crown is tonight worn by a beautiful young girl from Iceland.

Miss Iceland, Unnur Birna Vilhjálmsdóttir, was selected Miss World 2005 on Saturday December 10. The competetition was held in the city of Sanya in China. Unnur Birna finished ahead of over 100 contestants. Miss Mexico finished second and Miss Puerto Rico got third place. Three Icelandic women have previously been selected the most beautiful women in the world.
