45-Day Sentence for Cheese Theft

A Reykjavík man was sentenced to 45 days in prison for stealing five pieces of cheese from the 10-11 convenience store. According to Morgunbladid, the man had a criminal record and therefore he was not eligible for parole.

Sin Tax

The Parliament passed a bill increasing the tax on spirits and cigarettes by 7 per cent. According to Morgunbladid, the government should receive an additional ISK 340 million in tax revenues from the increase.
