The 13th French Film Festival in Reykjavík will open on Friday, January 11. Nine films, eight French and one Belgian, will be screened during the festival, which runs through January 24, including the opening film De rouille et d’os (Rust and Bone) by director Jacques Audiard, starring Marion Cotillard. The film premiered at Cannes last year and was nominated for the Palme d’Or.

The winner of the Palme d’Or, Amour, by Michael Haneke, will also be screened alongside Les Barons (The Barons; comedy), Un Poison Violent (Love Like Poison; drama), Nénette (documentary), L’Illusionniste (The Illusionist; animated comedy drama), La famille Wolberg (The Wolberg Family; drama), La clé des champs (The Field of Enchantement; by the directors of Microcosmos), and Adieu Berthe – l’enterrement de mémé (Granny’s Funeral; comedy).
All films will be screened at Háskólabíó at the University of Iceland with either English or Icelandic subtitles.

The road to Höfn, a 1,690-person harbor town by the fjord Hornafjörður, is lined with reindeer. Whole herds of the wild horned animals rest peacefully on withered pastures, grace next to sheep and horses and bounce along the road. Soon, Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier and the region’s biggest attraction, comes into view. Looming over Höfn, its outlet glaciers flow down from the mountains on which the bright white icecap rests.

Sin Fang will celebrate the release of his third album with a release concert in Iðnó on June 12. Flowers was released in February by Morr Music and has been well received by music enthusiasts and critics alike. The concert will be supported by Vök, this year’s winners of the Icelandic Music Experiments.
