The new issue of the print edition of Iceland Review has been released. This issue focuses on environment issues, organic farming and fashion design.
The issue is called “The Big Switch,” which is also the headline of an article by Zoë Robert on Iceland’s potential to become absolutely sustainable in energy usage.
Organic vegetable farmer Eymundur Magnússon at Vallanes in Hérad, east Iceland, is profiled by Jessica Harris, and Sari Peltonen summarizes the most noteworthy developments in the Icelandic fashion scene.
Interviewees include CEO of Alcan Iceland Rannveig Rist, folklorist Terry Gunnell and two Icelandophiles, husband and wife Edward and Joyce Hill from Ohio, who have visited Iceland annually for more than 30 years.
Photographer Páll Stefánsson covers this year’s swamp soccer tournament in Ísafjördur and the Great Fish Day in Dalvík. He also participates in the sheep roundup in Bárdardalur and Höfdahverfi in north Iceland.

Dadi Gudbjörnsson's art with its smiley faces, Aladdin's lamps, gleaming hearts, blue mountains and psychedelic flora of unearthly origin reminds me of the cheesy R.E.M. song “Shiny Happy People”. The sugar-sweet naivety fails to amuse me but I must admit it infects my mood with delirious joy.

Former President of Iceland Vigdís Finnbogadóttir turned 80 on 15 April this year and Mayor Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir—in making her an Honorary Citizen of Reykjavík to mark the occasion—observed that Finnbogadóttir’s life was interwoven with that of Reykjavík. In June 1980 Finnbogadóttir made history when she became the world’s first democratically elected female head of state.
