Maybe it would be best for both Jón Bjarnason and the whole country if he were to move to Grímsey, an uninhabited island in the West Fjords.

Dear Minister Mr Finar Kristinn Guofinnsson,
Mr Kristjan Loftsson has asked the government of Iceland to, again award commercial quotas for the catch of Fin whales for 2009. They commented on the situation during an interview with the Icelandic television that there are, indeed, contradicting views on the subject of whaling within the government. Nevertheless, you are of the opinion that the wider general public in Iceland supports the whaling, and that you intend to apply for a new whaling catch quota. We herby inform you about the fact that we will, shortly, appeal for a European-wide boycott of food chains that stock Icelandic fish. We will extensively, inform the customers of these groups on site about Icelandic fish. The fishing industry is, at the moment, the most important economic factor in Iceland. Also, we call on the members of the study group of the IWC to concentrate not only on the whaling by Japan but also by Iceland.
With regard to the boycott, we intend to enter a coalition with animal protectionists in the United Kingdom, which is one of the biggest importers of Icelandic fish products. It has been suggested that 300 jobs would be created as a result of this fin and minke whale hunt. However, it would be wise to remember that these, plus many more jobs would be lost as a result of a European-wide boycott. How would you explain this to your crisis-shaken citizens?
Hence, we demand:
- STOP -Icelandic whaling!
- STOP- Mr. Kristian Loftsson!
About us:
We are a group dedicated to whale protection activities with, 12,700 members, founded by Mr. Norbert Kochhan. We work co-operatively with Mr. Andreas Morlok who is internationally known, and is supported by a union of more than 200 animal protection organisations with more than 100,000 members. Additionally, you will find more information on the site: www.walschutzaktionen.de .
This letter is available for inspection by all politicians, parties, ministries and media in Iceland.
We kindly request your reply.
Bestu kveðjur

Dadi Gudbjörnsson's art with its smiley faces, Aladdin's lamps, gleaming hearts, blue mountains and psychedelic flora of unearthly origin reminds me of the cheesy R.E.M. song “Shiny Happy People”. The sugar-sweet naivety fails to amuse me but I must admit it infects my mood with delirious joy.
