The following pictures were taken by Patrick J. Dorflein at Birkikot, a summer house in Efsti-Dalur near Selfoss. The first pictures were taken from a hilltop around 7:30 pm on Saturday, May 21, about an hour after the volcanic eruption in Grímsvötn, Vatnajökull, began.

As of yesterday morning they couldn’t see any smoke column, only the ash cloud.
