Icelandic gaming company CCP announced earlier this week that it will sponsor Icelandic mixed martial arts athlete Gunnar Nelson.

As part of the agreement, Gunnar will promote the CCP’s newest computer game, DUST 514, at his next match and will be a special guest at the EVE Fanfest in Harpa April 25-27, visir.is reports.

Gunnar comes up against Jorge Santiago from the U.S. at Wembley Stadium in London on February 16. In October, Gunnar won in his first appearance since signing with UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship).

Earlier this month Gunnar was awarded the title of 2012 Nordic Breakthrough Fighter of the Year by Nordic MMA news site MMA Viking.

“Iceland’s Gunnar Nelson has captured a nation through MMA like few others. While Nelson could be put in a category for consideration for Prospect or even Fighter of the Year, ‘Gunni’ gets this new award for his unique status as both a media sensation and first win in the Octagon in impressive fashion,” the site said.

Gunnar also won the award for Fighter of the Year and Submission of the Year, while his club Mjölnir won Team of the Year at the Cage Contender awards in Ireland, as stated on the athlete’s official website.

Gunnar’s much anticipated match against Santiago will be broadcast live at Smárabíó cinema in Reykjavík.

Síðasti sjens is one of these hidden gems. They certainly have stories to tell, and it’s exactly their tough life experience that makes the arrangements Blues – Er ekki örugglega enginn í stuði? so authentic and thrilling.  more

Whole herds of the wild horned animals rest peacefully on withered pastures, grace next to sheep and horses and bounce along the road. Soon, Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier and the region’s biggest attraction, comes into view. Looming over Höfn, its outlet glaciers flow down from the mountains on which the bright white icecap rests.  more
