Assault in Suðurnes, Man Threatens Search and Rescue

A man was arrested after attacking three men with a bludgeon in the street last night in Reykjanesbær in the Suðurnes region in southwest Iceland. The victims were treated by the Suðurnes Health Institution.

Two other men are being held by police in the region, one for trying to run away from a taxi driver after refusing to pay for the ride and another for drinking and driving, ruv.is reports.

Also in Reykjanesbær, a man threatened a search and rescue worker yesterday morning, who at the request of the police was manning a road barrier on the Reykjanesbraut highway which was closed due to the raging blizzard.

A snowplow was about to clear the path for the Keflavík International Airport Fly Bus and others whom the police considered to have priority access to the capital while other drivers were asked to wait, a press release from ICE-SAR describes.

The man did not accept that arrangement and threatened the search and rescue worker who escaped into his vehicle and locked the door. The man kept knocking on the window until police arrived.

ICE-SAR ask the public to show understanding for the work of search and rescue teams who assist them voluntarily and not to threaten their safety while they’re trying to secure the safety of others.

Commuters are asked to pay close attention to weather forecasts and warnings on vedur.is and road conditions on vegagerdin.is.
