Birgitta Jónsdóttir, the Icelandic Member of Althingi who was named in the US Department of Justice probe against Wikileaks, says that she has ten days to stop Twitter in submitting information on her case. On her Facebook-page she says that department is asking for more personal information than just the blogs that she has written on the page.

Jónsdóttir has asked for a meeting with Interior Minister in Iceland Ögmundur Jónasson and Foreign Minister Össur Skarphédinsson this morning. She also says that she is demanding that the American ambassador in Iceland meet with her.

The subpoena was submitted in a Virginia court. Jónsdóttir says that “this is of course completely unacceptable. Originally I was not to be informed of this and the information was to be submitted in secret in December. This court is probably looking for ways to get Julian [Assange] extradited to the US.”

Jónsdóttir says that she is not afraid that she will go to prison in the United States, but demands an explanation from the US government. She has the assistance of American lawyers to fight against handing over the information demanded.

In spring 2009 Birgitta Jónsdóttir assisted with getting a video of American soldiers shooting at civilians in Bagdad from a helicopter. “It is completely unacceptable that I am considered to be a criminal just because I worked on this video and as a volunteer for Wikileaks. If the United States needs information about me they could contact me directly. The US ambassador could have spoken directly do me.”
