A northern lights center, Aurora Reykjavík, is set to open in Iceland’s capital in mid-May. Inside, visitors will be able to view the northern lights and obtain information about the natural phenomenon.
“We know of course that the experience won’t be comparable to seeing northern lights with the naked eye but the weather conditions in Iceland often block visibility and they can never be seen in the summer, of course,” Hörður Finnbogason, one of the center’s founders, told mbl.is.
“Everything is working out. We have started building and have landed an agreement with a large travel agent,” Hörður stated.
Aurora Reykjavík will be located in a building which used to facilitate the store Ellingsen at Grandi by the old harbor in the city center.
Hörður said the center will be divided into different sections. In the main hall, which will be slightly cooled, a video of dancing northern lights will run throughout the day.
