A man in his twenties has been sentenced to custody until March 27 in connection with the investigation of the death of a five-month old girl in the eastern part of Reykjavík.
The infant was taken by ambulance to Landspítali National University Hospital on Sunday evening but died during the night, ruv.is reports.
The medical examiner’s preliminary results indicate that the infant’s death was caused by bleeding in the brain. The police won’t release any further information on this case at this stage.
According to Fréttablaðið, the man, who is the girl’s father, is suspected of having inflicted shaken baby syndrome. So far, there has only been one conviction of shaken baby syndrome in Iceland.
