Reykjavík Fashion Festival 2013 came to a close on Saturday with a series of fashion shows at Harpa concert and conference center.
At the opening of the festival at Hotel Borg in downtown Reykjavík on Thursday evening, President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson paid tribute to the success of Icelandic designers and referenced the country’s landscape and natural phenomena as inspiration.
Guðmundur Jörundsson of JÖR by GUÐMUNDUR JÖRUNDSSON received an export award worth ISK 500,000 (USD 3,980, EUR 3,065) from DHL in Iceland and graduate student in fashion design at the Iceland Academy of the Arts Ásgrímur Már Friðriksson a recognition award from Coca-Cola Light in Iceland.
Designers who showcased their work on Saturday were Andersen & Lauth, REY, Huginn Muninn, Farmers Market, JÖR by GUÐMUNDUR JÖRUNDSSON, ELLA and Mundi 66º NORTH.

Icelandic mountaineer Ingólfur Geir Gissurarson made it up the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest at 8,848 meters, by the South East Ridge at 1 am Icelandic time last night. At 50, he is the fifth and oldest Icelander to make the climb.
