The 2013 Food & Fun Festival, combining “outstanding culinary skills, fresh natural ingredients, Icelandic outdoor adventure and the … Reykjavík nightlife,” will be held for the 12th time February 27 to March 3.
Visiting master chefs collaborate with a range of restaurants in Iceland’s capital, where they prepare a special menu made with Icelandic ingredients only. On the last day of the festival, the chefs compete by making three courses with Icelandic ingredients.
The chefs come from all over the world but mainly from North America, Europe and Scandinavia. One of them will be crowned the ‘Food & Fun Chef of the Year,’ an honor that has become respected in the culinary world, as stated in a press release.
The festival plays an important role in introducing and promoting Icelandic ingredients to foreign chefs, media and tourists, and has been coverage widely in the foreign media. More than 200 foreign journalists have visited the festival since its establishment.
The National Geographic named Food & Fun as one of the best culinary festivals in the world in 2011.
The festival is sponsored by its co-founder Icelandair, the City of Reykjavík and the Federation of Industries in Iceland.

Icelandic mountaineer Ingólfur Geir Gissurarson made it up the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest at 8,848 meters, by the South East Ridge at 1 am Icelandic time last night. At 50, he is the fifth and oldest Icelander to make the climb.

The Identification Committee of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police is working on the identification of a body swept up on the beach at Kaldbaksvík in Strandir, the eastern West Fjords, on Saturday. The body was found by travelers in the area.
