The Icelandic government has allocated ISK 57 million (USD 443,000, EUR 330,000) to humanitarian and relief work in Palestine. Palestine is one of the geographical areas prioritized in Iceland’s development cooperation action strategy.

Around ISK 13 million will go to UNOCHA joint emergency fund, another ISK 13 million to UNWFP for food donations for Palestine and around ISK 25 million to UNWOMEN and UNICEF in Palestine.
The remaining ISK 6 million will go to Palestinian Medical Relief, a grassroots, community-based healthcare organization, as stated in a press release from the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
Over the last year, the Icelandic government has provided ISK 175 million (USD 1.2 million, EUR 907,000) to humanitarian efforts in Palestine.
Iceland recently announced an ISK 25 million (USD 193,000, EUR 145,000) contribution to the emergency and humanitarian efforts by the United Nations in Syria.

The government of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir will formally step down after a state council meeting with President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson at his residence Bessastaðir at 11 am today. At 3 pm, the new government of Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson will attend a state council meeting and afterwards formally take power.
