Frjáls verslun, Iceland Review’s sister magazine, selected the publishers of Forlagið, Iceland’s biggest book publisher, as Businessmen of the Year. The two are father and son Jóhann Páll Valdimarsson and Egill Örn Jóhannsson.

Forlagið has been very successful since it was established in 2001, publishing many of the top titles every year. The company has been profitable since day one; in 2011 turnover was ISK 1.3 billion (USD 10 million, EUR 8 million) and profits were close to ISK 100 million (USD 800,000, EUR 650,000).
Forlagið is known as a leader in publishing in Iceland. Among the authors to have their work published by the company are Arnaldur Indriðason, Einar Kárason and Nobel Laureate Halldór Laxness.
The two accepted the honor from Minister of Education, Science and Culture Katrín Jakobsdóttir at a reception at Hótel Saga this evening. Close to 200 people came to the party including friends, family and leaders from the business community.

The Identification Committee of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police is working on the identification of a body swept up on the beach at Kaldbaksvík in Strandir, the eastern West Fjords, on Saturday. The body was found by travelers in the area.

Trips to the top of Iceland’s highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur (aka Hvannadalshnúkur), have proven popular this year, according to Icelandic Mountain Guides. Hvannadalshnjúkur is a peak on Öræfajökull in South Iceland measuring 2,109 meters in height.
