Police Funding Cut by 25 Percent in Five Years
Funding to the Icelandic police has fallen by ISK 2.7 billion (USD 21.3 million, EUR 16.3 million) or 25 percent since 2007. The information was revealed by the Ministry of the Interior in response to a query by MP for the Independence Party Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson.
The cuts refer to funding to the district commissioner, the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, and the National Commisioner of Suðurnes police and Reykjavík metropolitan area. The number of acting police officers has been reduced from 712 to 624, ruv.is reports.
