A variety of films from Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania, and the U.K. will be screened at the Reykjavík European Film Festival from November 16 to 25 at Bíó Paradís.
Eleven new or recent films in four categories will be screened, new European films, films nominated for the European Parliament Lux prize, films about gender-based violence (screened in collaboration with UN WOMEN), as well as three older films which form the Trilogy of Silence by acclaimed Greek director Theo Angelopoulos, who passed away last year.
The festival is held in cooperation with the information office of European Union delegation to Iceland. Smaller versions of the festival will be held in Akureyri, North Iceland, by the Akureyri Film Club at the beginning of December.
Tickets are ISK 500 (USD 3.90, EUR 3) and a festival pass valid for five movies is ISK 2,000 (USD 15, EUR 12).

One of the last tasks of Steingrímur J. Sigfússon while in office as minister of industries and innovation was to issue a regulation on Monday extending the reserve for whales in Faxaflói bay, off Reykjavík in Southwest Iceland. The regulation took affect at midnight.

The government of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir will formally step down after a state council meeting with President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson at his residence Bessastaðir at 11 am today. At 3 pm, the new government of Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson will attend a state council meeting and afterwards formally take power.
