A seminar on Icelandic and Norwegian contribution to Arctic research, entitled ‘In Northern Mists: Understanding the Past, Predicting the Future – Icelandic and Norwegian Contributions to Arctic Research,’ will be held at the University of Akureyri on November 12 to 13.

The meeting, organized by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in cooperation with the Stefansson Arctic Institute, CICERO – Center for International Climate and Environmental Research in Tromsø, the University of Akureyri and the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research, is part of an agreement to increase scientific cooperation between Iceland and Norway.
It was signed by the ministers for foreign affairs of Iceland and Norway, Össur Skarphéðinsson and Jonas Gahr Støre, last year.
Assistant Norwegian Minister for Foreign Affairs Torgeir Larsen and Icelandic permanent secretary for foreign affairs Einar Gunnarsson will open the meeting. Icelandic and Norwegian scientists will then present their research.
The meeting will be held in English and is open to all.

One of the last tasks of Steingrímur J. Sigfússon while in office as minister of industries and innovation was to issue a regulation on Monday extending the reserve for whales in Faxaflói bay, off Reykjavík in Southwest Iceland. The regulation took affect at midnight.
