The Reader
Gerðuberg’s Collector’s Corner is the venue for displays of interesting collections in individual ownership. In The Reader, Sigrún Klara Hannesdóttir, bibliophile and former national librarian, shares part of her souvenir collection with us.
The items, covering a wide range of objects including statuettes, postcards, bookmarks, paintings and porcelain plates, are united by their theme: they all show readers holding books.
During her travels over the past 25 years, Sigrún Klara has collected statuettes or pictures of people reading books and of animals. Her aim is to visit 100 countries and she plans to reach this goal in 2013, no doubt adding further items to her collection along the way.

Whitsun, or hvítasunna in Icelandic, is a religious holiday, celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter. Usually known as Pentecost in English, the holiday commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples of Christ.

The festival Reykjavík Music Mess kicks off at KEX Hostel in the center of the capital with an opening party on May 23 at 8 pm. An art exhibition themed around the participating bands will open at the occasion and Boogie Trouble will play a few songs. Entry is free.
