The Icelandic Met Office has issued a warning for parts of Iceland tonight including the Eyjafjöll and Öræfi regions in East Iceland with wind gusts of up to 40 m/s (130 km/h, 80 miles/h) forecast.
Heavy snow and strong wind are forecast for mountain passes in Northeast Iceland later today. Late tonight and early morning tomorrow, the northwest and the West Fjords will be hardest hit with strong winds and heavy snowfall.
The southern part of Snæfellsnes peninsula will also be hit by very strong wind early tomorrow. Roads in the northern and eastern parts of the country are covered with ice and snow, making for treacherous driving conditions particularly during a heavy snow storm.
