A 25-year-old woman stated at Reykjanes District Court yesterday that she made her mother, who is in her early sixties, smuggle 569 grams of cocaine to the country in May.

Her mother was caught when traveling from Copenhagen through Keflavík International Airport with her partner. The substance was found in their luggage. The couple was released after questioning and neither of them are facing charges, ruv.is reports.
However, the daughter has been charged with drug smuggling along with two men, one of whom was wanted by Interpol last summer. Five persons are on trial in this case, charged with various drug and traffic violations.
The woman confessed to having organized the drug smuggling from Iceland with her associates in Denmark but stated she is innocent of organizing the smuggling of 347 grams of cocaine from Spain.
In other drug smuggling news, customs officers at Keflavík International Airport confiscated more than 35,000 steroid tablets and 500 ampules which were found in the luggage of a traveler coming from Berlin in the early hours of October 27, Morgunblaðið reports.
The man carrying the drugs was released after the steroids were confiscated but the police has now been given the case for investigation.
