Pest control has cost Reykjavík City ISK 52 million (USD 412,000, EUR 320,000) so far this year. The costs include the salaries of four employees, material and vehicle costs.

The role of pest control is to keep the impact of pests such as rats, foxes and minks to a minimum, ruv.is reports.
Pest control staff also collect stray cats, which are then placed in Kattholt cat shelter. The cost of operating Kattholt, between ISK 4 to 5 million (USD 31,700-39,700, EUR 25,000-30,000) this year, is also included in the amount.
