The Icelandic national team in men’s handball beat Belarus 36:28 in the opening EHF EURO 2014 qualification phase 2 match at the Laugardalshöll stadium in Reykjavík last night. The game was the team’s first since Aron Kristjánsson replaced Guðmundur Guðmundsson as coach.
The match was also the first since star player and former captain Ólafur Stefánsson quit the national team two weeks ago after almost 20 years.
Iceland and Belarus are in Group 6 along with Romania and Slovenia. Iceland’s next game will be against Romania on November 4, ehf-euro.com reports.
