Iceland “Should Reconsider Demands” in Mackerel Dispute

CEO of the association of Norwegian fishing vessel owners Audun Maråk stated on the body's publication fiskebat.no on Wednesday that Iceland should reconsider its demands in the mackerel dispute.

“Iceland and the Faroe Islands have not budged the past three years, whereas the EU and Norway have repeatedly presented different offers,” he wrote.

According to Maråk, the EU and Norway will negotiate a bilateral agreement on mackerel quotas for 2013. The meeting will probably take place in December, he said.

As reported on Thursday, a meeting on the management of mackerel fisheries between the Coastal States of Iceland, Norway, the Faroe Islands and the EU, held in London from October 22-24, was inconclusive.
