A large rock from the cliff in Illastapagjá rift on Drangey Island in Skagafjörður, North Iceland, has split after the ongoing seismic activity in the area of the past week.

There are also reports that a five to ten-meter wide section of the western part of Cape Þórðarhöfði on Drangey Island collapsed, mbl.is reports.
Director of the Center for Natural Research in Northwest Iceland Þorsteinn Sæmundsson confirmed the damage at Illastapagjá when he visited the area with several members of the Drangey Island Society to check the damage.
Seismic activity has been ongoing for several days now. On Sunday morning, an earthquake of a magnitude 5.6 hit North Iceland around 2 am. In Siglufjörður, objects fell from shelves and cracks appeared in windows.
It was the strongest to have occurred in the Tjörnes fissure zone since 1976 when a 6.2 quake hit near Kópasker.
The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police declared a level of uncertainty over the ongoing series of earthquakes off North Iceland yesterday.
People on the office’s behalf have walked between homes in the region to encourage people to prepare in case the seismic activity leads to a stronger earthquake, Fréttablaðið reports.
