Re: Arrival in Iceland
After arriving at the airport early in the morning, we picked up our rental car and headed towards Grindavík for a circle tour on our way to Reykjavík. We found ourselves at the Bryggjan shortly after 8, looking for some breakfast and coffee. The very friendly owner apologized for not really doing breakfast at this hour... but he would happily scare up some toast and the coffee was ready.

Sounds great, says us. Sipping coffee whilst enjoying the view and reviewing a map, we’re a little surprised some ten minutes later to see the owner enter via the front door vs. from the kitchen... and he has a grocery bag.

Lo and behold, he has decided we should have a breakfast (perhaps we look unhealthy).

Moments later, plates of ham and cheese, toast, tubs of skyr, and orange juice appear. The coffee is fantastic. And then waffles with homemade blueberry jam and whipped butter.

We’re astonished. Between food trips, he brings books in English that may interest us. My wife asks how much for a book that she finds interesting, and he signs it and insists that she take it as a gift. It’s pretty overwhelming.

I have never, anywhere, experienced such hospitality. It was more than I could have or would have hoped for anywhere in the world.

What a fantastic start to our trip!!

Thank you Sir!!!
