A new play about the current economic situation in Europe by Icelandic playwright Jón Atli Jónasson will premiere in the renowned theater Schaubühne in Berlin in March.

“It is a play in which I’m collaborating with theater artists from Greece and Spain where the situation is the worst at the moment,” Jón Atli told Fréttablaðið.
The play, which has yet to be named, will be directed by Falk Richter, who is among the most respected theater directors and playwrights in Germany.
It will be Jón Atli’s second premier in a short time; Reykjavík City Theater will stage his play Nóttin nærist á deginum (‘The Night Feeds on the Day’) at the end of January.
Jón Atli is among Iceland’s foremost playwrights. He wrote the critically-acclaimed plays Brim (Undercurrent) and Djúpið (The Deep) about seamanship, both of which have been adapted to equally critically-acclaimed films.
