Hollywood Location Directors Travel Iceland

Location directors Ilt Jones and Dow Griffith, who have worked on The Dark Night Rises and The Bourne Legacy, came to Iceland last month with a reporter from The Location Guide to scout locations for large-scale Hollywood producers.

“Jones came with a short notice because Robert Downey Jr. broke his leg and shooting for Iron Man 3, on which he is working now, had to be postponed,” Árni Björn Helgason of Icelandic film production company Saga Film, which guided the location directors around Iceland, told Fréttablaðið.

“I think we visited all places in Iceland apart from Raufarhöfn,” Árni Björn commented, adding it was fun to be around such experienced location directors. “These two men are without doubt the most respected players of the industry.”

Jones and Griffith are looking for locations for a specific movie, which name Árni Björn cannot reveal at this time. “But I can confirm that it is a major project which is to be filmed next year.”

“The took loads of pictures of the country so I just have to cross my fingers and hope that the film director likes what he sees,” said Árni Björn, revealing that his traveling companions were mostly impressed by the glaciers.

Árni Björn stated that Iceland has proven itself as a prime location. “The past two years have been incredibly good for the industry and it appears that this will continue.”

The Location Guide is currently running a story on filming in Iceland.
