Fish and fish liver oil consumption has declined substantially between the generations, according to a recent article in Læknablaðið, the Icelandic Medical Journal.
Cardiologist and author of the article, Margrét Leósdóttir, found that fish consumption among young people aged 18 to 30 years old has decreased.
According to the study, 41 percent of young men and 45 percent of women ate fish just once a week, less than once a week or never, visir.is reports.
While fish liver oil is higher than fish consumption, and has risen since the last survey, young people eat one third the quantity of fish that older people consume.
Margrét says the downward trend in young generations is worrying, particularly given the rise of obesity and a sedentary lifestyle.
