The National Museum of Iceland and Reykjavík City Museum – Árbaejarsafn have expressed interest in acquiring objects used during the recent series of protests against the government in Reykjavík, dubbed “The Pots and Pans Revolution.”

“The old pot that you grabbed with you to demonstrate on Austurvöllur has become historically significant and hopefully a collector’s item,” Gerdur Róbertsdóttir, manager of Árbaejarsafn’s preservation division, told Morgunbladid.
“If you brought an old pan with you to protest on Austurvöllur, you either continue using it or throw away after the protests are over. We cannot wait because people throw everything away today,” Róbertsdóttir said.
The museums are also interested in other objects used during the protests, like signs. Árbaejarsafn already has a collection of objects related to protests, for example a sign used in a demonstration for increased electoral rights in 1923.
Protests are still going on in Iceland. The Voices of the People organization is inviting people to attend the 18th demonstration in the series on Austurvöllur parliamentary square tomorrow to demand a more active democracy and no corruption.

Minister of Transport Kristján L. Möller decided yesterday to follow the advice of the committee supervising the finances of municipalities and appoint a three-person board to reorganize the finances of Álftanes, a neighboring community of Reykjavík, which has gone into insolvency.

Icelandair has submitted a request to the Ministries of Justice and Industry that operating casinos be legalized in Iceland. The company is interested in opening a casino at the Hilton Hotel Nordica on Sudurlandsbraut in Reykjavík.

When I first heard of the photographic book Legend by Fiann Paul, portraying people dressed in Viking-style in Icelandic landscapes, I imagined it would depict scenes from Norse mythology. However, the idea with the book is to tell a story of how “The Seeker” finds “The Legend” and it feels like a wishy-washy self-help book.

“Lucy” is a video and music installation by Dodda Maggý (1981), the 15th artist to exhibit in Reykjavík Art Museum’s D-gallery project in the Hafnarhús exhibition hall. In “Lucy” the artist explores the idea of the “acousmetre,” a film character portrayed only by voice, never in body, omniscient and ubiquitous.
