The five Icelandic contestants in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing have finished competing and are satisfied with their performances. None of the contestants returned with a medal, but two of them improved on their personal records.
Sprinter Jón Oddur Halldórsson was the most successful Icelandic contestant at the games; he was the only one who had competed at the Paralympics before, Morgunbladid reports.
Halldórsson finished fifth in a 100-meter dash on Saturday. His time was 13.40 seconds, his best time this year.
Swimmer Eythór Thrastarson improved on his time in 100-meter backstroke by 5.78 seconds on Saturday, finishing 12th. He clocked in with 1:20.15.
Earlier in the games, Thrastarson had finished eighth in 400-meter freestyle where he improved on his personal record by 13 seconds. Thrastarson is aiming for the gold in the 2012 London Paralympics.
