President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson met General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces in the United Arab Emirates yesterday.

According to gulfnews.com, Shaikh Mohammad welcomed Grímsson and said he hoped the visit would play a major role in strengthening bilateral relations between the UAE and Iceland.
They exchanged views on the Zayed Future Energy Prize and the visiting dignitary expressed his happiness about the quality of the prize and the number of international participants in its second edition.
Grímsson attended a meeting of the jury of the Zayed Future Energy Prize, of which he is member. The prize is among the grandest in the world on innovation and leadership in the field of renewable energy, a press release from the President’s Office states.
The energy prize will be granted at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, January 18-21. The prize is USD 1.5 million (EUR 1 million) and 600 nominations have been received from different parts of the globe.
In addition to Grímsson, Dr. R. K. Pachauri, chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Susan Hockfield, rector of the MIT University in the US, architect Norman Foster, who has designed many well-known buildings all around the world, former CEO of BP Lord Browne, and Helene Pelosse, managing director of the International Renewable Energy Agency IRENA, are members of the jury.

Icelandic stamp collector Magni R. Magnússon recently found a rare stamp sheet from Liberia portraying President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson in a collector’s store in Belgium. Liberian post authorities issued stamps with almost 200 world leaders in 2000.

When I first heard of the photographic book Legend by Fiann Paul, portraying people dressed in Viking-style in Icelandic landscapes, I imagined it would depict scenes from Norse mythology. However, the idea with the book is to tell a story of how “The Seeker” finds “The Legend” and it feels like a wishy-washy self-help book.

“Lucy” is a video and music installation by Dodda Maggý (1981), the 15th artist to exhibit in Reykjavík Art Museum’s D-gallery project in the Hafnarhús exhibition hall. In “Lucy” the artist explores the idea of the “acousmetre,” a film character portrayed only by voice, never in body, omniscient and ubiquitous.
