A potato farmer in southwest Iceland was recently sentenced to two months in prison for keeping a police officer from doing his job and attacking him with potatoes.
The police officer was following a car violating traffic laws and wanted to have a word with the driver. Instead of stopping the man at the wheel drove into a potato field where he was working. Fréttabladid reports.
The owner of the field appeared and put up a wire so the police man couldn’t follow the driver. The potato farmer asked the officer to leave his premises, but he insisted on talking to the driver of the car and called for backup.
The potato farmer started a conveyer belt covered in potatoes, which flew off the belt and hit the policeman. Another policeman arrived and tried to turn the machine off, but the farmer pushed him aside.
Finally the two police men managed to subdue the potato farmer and arrest him.
